A little about me!
My name is Jen Franklin and I live in Buckinghamshire. I am lucky enough to have a great family and a very big support network of friends. Russ is my husband and we have been married for 19 years. We have two children, Ellie who is 13 and Samuel 10.
I have always been interested in pregnancy and childbirth, and have considered taking a direct entry to midwifery course many times. I gained a baby brother at the age of 14 and loved every minute of him, I’m sure this is what started my interest. I had not heard about birth doulas until my sister asked me to support her and her partner at my nephew’s birth. I then realised that this was the profession I had always been looking for. Looking back on my own childbirth experiences brings back fantastic memories, but I wish I had been better informed and supported.
I completed my doula training with Kicki Hansard (Doula of the Year 2009) from Nurturing Birth. My doula training together with the births I have been privileged to attend, have ensured that I have a huge amount of knowledge in the birth process, including all forms of pain relief, both natural and medical.
I am a member of Doula UK, which is a network of Doulas run by Doulas, and I abide by their Philosophy and "Code of Conduct"". I am currently going through their assessment procedure to attain their "recognised" doula status.
I am fully insured and have an up to date CRB check.
I volunteer at Stoke Mandeville Hospital's Maternity Unit and I am training to be a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter.
Level 2 Breastfeeding Workshop - Jan 2010 Waterbirth Study Day - March 2010 Experience & Specialities: I am an experienced sole birthing partner. I also have experience of waterbirth, instrumental deliveries and supporting women through caesarean section.
I carry a Helios birth kit, birthing oil for gentle massage and several flower remedies.
Testimonials:
"At every step along the way Jen foresaw our needs resulting in me remaining focused on my contractions and my husband on his supporting role. We would whole heartedly recommend using a doula’s services and particularly recommend Jen to anyone looking to have a calm, focused birth experience supported by a confident and friendly birthing partner." Emma
"After our first meeting with Jen we were convinced her help in planning and organising for the birth of our son would be invaluable, we decided straight away that a doula was definitely the way forward. Labour can be a scary time but with Jen's constant encouragement and reassurance both my husband and I found her involvement priceless. Breastfeeding was a daunting prospect and I needed guidance after our first child, with Jen's help Dylan has taken to it beautifully. We would not hesitate in recommending Jen to any couple going through this fantastic life changing event" - Mandy and Kevin
"We cannot thank Jen enough for the encouragement and support she gave us while I was in labour with our first child. Having her with us every step of the way was fabulous and we will always look back on the whole birth experience with fond memories. Thank you Jen." Alice |
